Three emperors have passed away in succession, and a prince who has never been noticed inexplicably ascends the throne, finding himself in grave danger. The Empress Dowager dislikes him, constantly desiring to install a younger, more obedient new emperor; his half-brothers dislike him, believing he has stolen the throne that should have been theirs; eunuchs and maids also dislike him, feeling he is not a true emperor...
