The art of brick carving originated in the Spring and Autumn period and reached its peak during the Tang and Song dynasties. In history, during the Ming and Qing dynasties, with the migration of population, brick carving art entered Guyuan, Ningxia and combined with the auspicious culture of the Han ethnic group and Confucian culture, forming a unique brick carving art. The traditional brick carving in Guyuan, Ningxia contains elements of landscape culture and seasonal peace patterns, which have become important cultural symbols in the local area and are known as "hard flower life". Brick carving once had a glorious period where "no carving can make a house, and carving is precious", as well as a declining period when craftsmen could not support themselves. Later, it was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage.The article presents the history behind brick carving art through the story of the Wei family, a small family that has been passed down and guarded by five generations.As the fourth generation descendant of the Wei Family Brick Carving, Wei Shichuan gave birth to five daughters. However, following the family motto of "passing on the art of brick carving to men but not to women, and passing on the art of brick carving to the inside but not to the outside", he refused to pass on the art of brick carving to his daughter and son-in-law. He would rather this art be buried with him in the tomb. Unexpectedly, under the management of his son-in-law, the "Wei's Brick Carving" craft, which was on the brink of extinction, broke the rigid family tradition of "passing on male to female, passing on internal knowledge to external knowledge". Under the policy call for rural revitalization, he began to lead the entire village to learn brick carving craft and become rich through it. He also introduced internship bases for college students, allowing more knowledgeable and cultured students to learn brick carving. In order to better protect the cultural heritage of brick carving, he opened the Brick Carving Culture Exhibition Hall. With the efforts of my son-in-law, brick carving art not only contributes to rural revitalization, but is also loved by young people.
